SCOTTISH UNION OF SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT HELP DISABLED PEOPLE HAVE A FULFILLED WORKING LIFE
A charity based at Kirkintilloch which strives to ensure disabled people and those with chronic conditions have the opportunity of a fulfilling working life, has been praised by the local MSP.
Strathkelvin and Bearsden SNP MSP Rona Mackay paid a visit to the Scottish Union of Supported Employment (SUSE) at Neasham Drive to learn more about their work recently.
The aim of SUSE is to support disabled people to find and retain paid work by increasing the availability and quality of supported employment in Scotland.
Next month, SUSE is hosting Inclusive Employers Week Scotland – a week of activities from November 13-17, to help employers discover more about the support available to them to recruit and retain disabled talent.
Local firms can take part in a week of bitesize online information sessions and training.
Ms Mackay said: “It was fantastic to visit the Scottish Union of Supported Employment at Kirkintilloch to hear about its vital work promoting inclusion and diversity in the workforce.
“It’s so important disabled people and those with long-term health conditions have the opportunity of a fulfilling working life.
SUSE was shortlisted this year for the Digital Citizen Award at the SCVO Scottish Charity Awards 2023.
A spokesperson for SUSE said: “Recruitment today is often digital with many employers only accepting online applications.
“Disabled jobseekers face not just attitude barriers but digital barriers as well. Many websites and recruitment boards are not fully accessible to disabled people.
“We educate employers on how they can have efficient and cost-effective recruitment processes that do not deter disabled applicants and applicants with long-term health conditions.
“This ultimately provides confidence to disabled job seekers that barriers they typically face at the job application stage are not due to their level of digital skills, but rather a failing of recruitment processes.”
