THE HIVE AT LENNOXTOWN RUN BY LOCAL PEOPLE FOR LOCAL PEOPLE
Local MSP Rona Mackay has praised the work of volunteers at a new hub at Lennoxtown run by the community for the community.
The Hive, based at Lennoxtown Enterprise Centre, aims to deliver a range of services to the local community, from a food pantry and wellbeing workshops to cookery demonstrations and exercise classes.
There is also a warm space for local people to simply meet for a cup of tea and a chat, and a games room upstairs for local youngsters.
The Hive can be used too for local group meetings or activities, children’s parties or events and seasonal celebrations.
Ms Mackay, SNP MSP for Strathkelvin and Bearsden was invited to the recent opening day of the new hub where she met volunteers, including Susan Cairns and Sandra Meechan, two of the driving forces behind The Hive.
Ms Mackay said: “It was brilliant to meet all the fantastic local volunteers at The Hive’s busy open day at Lennoxtown. What a welcoming bunch!
“The turnout at the open day demonstrated the enthusiasm for this type of community facility in the area. It’s a great idea and I am sure The Hive will go from strength to strength.”
Councillor for Bishopbriggs and Campsie, Paul Ferretti, added: “The Hive is a local facility being run by the community for the community and we want as many voices involved at the beginning as possible.”
More volunteers are needed to join this happy, dedicated and enthusiastic group who want to make life better for the local community.
