RONA Mackay MSP is asking people to donate food to the local foodbank at a supermarket this weekend.
Rona Mackay will be helping out at the food collection point in Kirkintilloch’s Tesco Metro on Saturday, December 3, from 10am to 11.30am. She calls on her constituents to join her in the campaign.
This December, Tesco is running a food drive to provide emergency food for those in need.
The Strathkelvin and Bearsden MSP said: “There are many families living in poverty and struggling with hunger.
“For people in need, winter is an especially hard time. The compound of cold weather and an empty stomach makes the situation even harder. That is why we have even more duty to lend a hand.
Tesco’s Neighbourhood Food Collection is in its fifth year in the running. Starting in 2012, and held every winter, the supermarket chain has collected 38 million meals.
The project is run in conjunction with Trussell Trust Foodbank and FareShare, who go on to send the food to people in crisis, women’s refuges, homeless shelters, and children’s breakfast clubs.
Constituents can drop their food donation at collection points in Tesco stores in Bishopbriggs and Kirkintilloch, which will remain open until December 3.
