TWECHAR EDUCATION CENTRE IN £1.1 MILLION SNP GOVERNMENT FUNDING WINDFALL

The Twechar Outdoor Pursuits Training and Education Centre was awarded over £1.1 million in vital funding this week through the Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant Fund (RCGF).

Schemes around Scotland are to receive a share of £25million from the RCGF, with Twechar earmarked for the £1.1 million funding pot. The RCGF will support 1220 jobs and as well as thousands of training places by refurbishing and bringing back into use 26 empty buildings to provide space for community enterprises.

The news has been welcomed by local MSP, Rona Mackay.

Ms Mackay, who has recently been reselected as the SNP candidate for Strathkelvin and Bearsden at the upcoming Scottish Parliament elections, commented:

“The Twechar Outdoor Pursuits Training and Education Centre is a fantastic initiative which provides vital support for people across East Dunbartonshire and beyond. I am delighted to see that the SNP Government will be providing this extra funding to tackle inequalities and deliver growth.

“The Regeneration Capital Grant Fund has been vital in supporting community-led regeneration projects and has invested more than £200million since 2014.

“As we look towards our recovery from the COVID-19 crisis, this investment in our communities will be vital.

“Throughout the pandemic there has been a focus on buying from and supporting local businesses and initiatives, and long may that continue. This latest round of investment will help to support our town centres to build sustainable spaces to support jobs and training.”
