SNP MSP for Strathkelvin and Bearsden Rona Mackay has marked Challenge Poverty Week by highlighting the vital role local communities play in tackling poverty in her own constituency and throughout East Dunbartonshire.
Local groups and volunteers have a strong and proud history in helping one another and undertake a crucial role in supporting those who need it most.
As local MSP, Rona is keen to support and highlight this vital work in any way “as together we can make a real difference”.
She said: “From the amazing volunteers at East Dunbartonshire Foodbank helping local families in crisis to Group Recovery Aftercare Community Enterprise (GRACE) who support people in recovery from life trauma, whether homelessness or drug addiction and The Hive at Lennoxtown, set up by local people for local people with a food pantry, cooking facilities and a warm space for families, it is local communities and volunteers across my constituency who are so often at the frontline of challenging the injustice of poverty.
“It is right that during Challenge Poverty Week we celebrate and recognise the vital efforts local groups make – and as their MSP I am committed to supporting them in any way I can.
“We all know how tight household budgets have been in recent times – but it is the hard work and dedication of volunteers that has gone such a long way in helping those who need it most.
“My number one priority as an MSP is to help eradicate child poverty in Strathkelvin and Bearsden – and this would not be possible without dedicated local heroes who go above and beyond to help others.”
