Rona Mackay MSP has welcomed the launch of a new national campaign to recruit more foster carers as part of the SNP Scottish Governments commitment to deliver The Promise and support care experienced children and young people.
Scotland urgently needs at least 400 more foster carers. A new campaign aims to raise awareness of fostering and encourage people in Strathkelvin and. Bearsden and across Scotland to consider the life-changing impact they could make on the lives of a child or young person.
Commenting, SNP MSP for Strathkelvin and Bearsden, Rona Mackay said:
“Foster carers across Strathkelvin and Bearsden and the whole of Scotland are everyday heroes who give children the love, care and support they need to flourish.”
"You do not need special qualifications to foster, just the compassion and commitment to make a difference. Ordinary acts of care can have an extraordinary impact on a child’s life. We urgently need more foster carers across Strathkelvin and Bearsden.”
“I would encourage anyone who thinks they could offer a loving home to take that first step and find out more.”
The Scottish Government’s campaign will run across TV, radio, press and digital channels through May and June.
A new website and advice line will support people interested in fostering.
Notes to Editors:
Fostering is open to people of all ethnicities, religions, sexual orientations, genders, and family structures.
Foster carers do not need any specific qualifications, and don't need to have children of their own.
The ‘Ordinary can be extraordinary for a child in foster care’ campaign runs for four weeks across TV, video on demand, radio and press, and for seven weeks across digital channels.
